Shelita's "You Will Want My Love" Review

“This song is like a riptide, beautiful and strong.” The first time I heard Shelita’s “You Will Want My Love”, I immediately started shuffling songs back to it. It was love at first listen. I was spellbound by the warmth of her vocal quality, as the song pulled at my heartstrings with pure soulful emotion. I’m a sucker for a female vocalist who can create those shimmering, glossy moments in pop while offering depth through an earnest approach to singing, and “You Will Want My Love” does just that.

Shelita sounds like a combination of Adele, Bjork, and Beyoncé with a vulnerability that is oddly comforting. Vocally and production wise, the harmonies in the chorus sweetly float with the main melody, intensifying this slow suction into wanting to hit the repeat button over and over again. The lyrics are sappy and heartening, detailing that familiar injection of love, support, and care that leaves your heart racing. I appreciate the lyric “You will want my love” and how it repeats within the chorus, this romantic earworming that makes the lyrics so memorable.

Musically, it opens up with atmospheric synths, a mellow groove with tasteful piano arpeggios to create a lush sonic cloud of romantic bliss. The production provides a delicate layer of orchestration for Shelita’s voice to glide over. It’s genre-fluid, but I would call it R&B pop. As with most genre-blending projects I love, there are aspects that are cinematic, experimental, hypnotic, and worldly, creating a sensual earworm that instantly makes you want to be right next to her.

Shelita writes this song after her recovery from a traumatic skydiving accident that occurred a few years prior to this single’s release. Written with William Henshall of 80s band Londonbeat, the song was produced by Bellringer who has a long list of credits including The Weeknd and Whigfield to name a few. “You Will Want My Love” is just the beginning of a bright path for Shelita; she sounds vulnerable and ready to embrace a new chapter of transformation. This beautiful song is the first track from Shelita's upcoming album, Into the Depths. I'm counting down the days until I have another chance to write my thoughts on her next release. The track is polished, commercial, sexy, and ultimately human. It’s going to be on my playlists for a long time. If you need a dose of genuine connection to the other side of your headphones, give this song a listen.
