Gel's "Persona" Review: A Powerful Statement in Hardcore

Gel’s persona is a straight-to-business hardcore five-track return for the New Jersey roots scene. EP is not only a manifestation of the band’s evolution in energy and message but storyline that gives the audience goosebumps with personal essences. The CD starts off with the track titled “Mirage’ and what can be noted is that the volume is a constantly changing between more aggressive and passive sections as the group perfectly combines both elements of energy and contemplation. Sami, with a powerful voice, sings loud and clear and the message that we all have to stick together, as well as the baby Herman is sent home and must find themselves. Every tune leaves the identity and impression of a track that appears well-planned, and has melodic frills that do not evaporate into distortion. Thus, the record is not only an album of songs; it is a proclamation of the self in a constantly transforming subgenre, which makes the band’s contribution to today’s hardcore scene unique.
