ESTRADA Music Project's "We are not God" Review

I’ve been listening to “We Are Not God” by ESTRADA Music Project a lot and I’m not sure I’ll ever get tired of it. Visualize synths that sound like the frenzied energy of a city at night, together with guitars bringing in lighter, clearer sounds. It reminds me of my past, with its dark mood and reminds me of when I used to listen to Depeche Mode in my room. However, there is also a special, soulful freshness to this brand which sets it apart.

The creator of it? A urologist at the Glasgow NHS who gives up surgery in favor of making music. How cool is it that some people spend their shifts saving patients and in their free time they put their energy into music? The feeling of it comes out in the music. The performers’ voices sound close to whispering and seem to share true, vulnerable emotions drawn from being close to others. Music tells a tale, not just makes noise.

It’s really the emotion in the play that affects me most. Experiencing the hardships in healthcare, “We Are Not God” looks at how we aren’t superhuman, yet we still have the power to be compassionate. It feels serious, yet keeps you interested. It takes you to an elevated, thoughtful and vibrant headspace. That items are accompanied by a vintage medical video? Pure genius. The music is very haunting and intense, making the song’s meaning more memorable. I find it’s great at night, with a drive, the windows open and the city is moving by me. ESTRADA has captured an essence of who we are in the art of this music. Give it a try; you’ll be glad you  listened.
