Michellar's "LET'S GO MOVE AROUND" Review

I felt a stream of light passing through my headphones when I first started “Let’s Go Move Around.” This San Francisco artist has made a song that’s just pure fun, with catchy pop-inspired post-punk that makes you want to dance and imagine at the same time. After the dreamy emotions of “Dreaming,” Michellar turns up the intensity and I really like it.

The track begins with soft, wordless singing over gentle guitar notes and a short bass rhythm which is inviting from the outset. You can see the charm of it, like cruising with the windows open, hoping to find some dream destination. Michellar’s singing is quiet but irresistible, with a tune that seems to ask listeners to relax and enjoy the song. It’s a combination of synths, guitars and rhythms and it’s both full of nostalgia and feels modern at the same time, like Ed Sheeran collaborating with The Cure.

The thing that touches me most is the song’s direct and open expression of emotion. It’s about starting again–whether you’re going on an adventure or just having some calm moments. Since I’ve gone through gray moments in life, this song feels like a friend motivating me to keep going after what I love. Although the music was produced in a basic San Francisco studio and finished by Marius Alexandru in Romania, it clearly reveals that dedication can make something out of nothing.

Personally, “Let’s Go Move Around” is a song I reach for when I want a little lift and encouragement to keep looking for my own little haven. Michellar has something unique on their hands and I can’t wait to hear more. Go ahead and put it on—the melody will take you someplace special.
