I love music that really beats with energy and that’s just what I found in Wattmore’s “Romantic Side”: an entertaining mix of all kinds. Once more, Brisbane artists Aiden and Kai Boak, who made a name for themselves with their first single, now bring a dose of alt-country mood, rockabilly attitude and punk shenanigans.
A prominent country groove introduces the song which is also filled with rough-edged singing and catchy lines. Lindsay Waddington at LWM House Studios produced this song which is a fun and sharp-witted effort created with Allan Caswell. With some of Australia’s best country musicians, the instrumentation keeps a fun and lively beat that works for any dive bar or long drive. It’s as if the Waylon Jennings show was interrupted by Green Day and they combine perfectly.
I admire that Wattmore is not afraid to try new and bold ideas. Influenced by Oasis and Americana yet different, they keep their personal touch, creating music that’s real, raw and memorable. The song humorously points out the strange parts of modern romance and manages to display the true desire for true love. It’s a song you’ll smile at, sing along to and possibly overthink your dating life.
Selected to open their new album, the single shows Wattmore stylishly blazing a new trail in alt-country. This song is not only upbeat and memorable; it’s also completely real and I can’t wait to hear whatever else these brothers release. In today’s music landscape Wattmore’s “Romantic Side” is a breath of fresh air. They for sure have a great capacity to blend genres while still being authentic. This duo has tons of creativity and energy and their future looks exciting. I am really looking forward to what is going to be next from them.
