Asake ‘Lungu Boy’ is Asake’s attempt at Afro-pop that is rich with infusion of his striking sound and identity. The album uses the traditional genres of Nigerian music, but has added strong beats that make it energetic. There are song with lots of energy and others with certain introspective characteristics typical of pop to Asake. It is, however, important not to mistake your average with your luck as the energy and persona of the show cannot be disputed. This is made even more appealing by his capacity to adapt telling a storey within lyrics and tunes which make “Lungu Boy” both enjoyable and profound. This album puts Asake at the forefront of the music scene and continues to extend African-pop music’s horizon.
